Rosacea:

  • Almost always affects the face only
  • Is associated with
    • Pimples (pustules)
    • Papules (small bumps)
    • Telangiectasia (enlarged or broken capillaries)
    • A tendency to flush or blush easily
  • Sometimes may cause enlargement of the nose (rhinophyma)
  • Is commonly mistaken as a sign of alcoholism
  • Is most common in persons with fair skin and northern european heritage

General Measures:

  • Sunlight makes rosacea worse
  • Avoid the sun and use a good sunscreen
  • Some foods such as caffeine (coffee, tea), hot drinks, alcohol and spicy foods may make rosacea worse
    • Consuming them in moderation or avoiding them may help
  • A variety of creams and pills are available
  • Please talk to you doctor about your treatment options
  • IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) – Fotofacials are effective for the treatment of broken capillaries (telangiectasia) and the redness of rosacea
