Syringomas (Enlarged Sweat Glands on the Cheeks and Eyelids)

Serving Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Grimsby and surrounding areas

Syringomas

  • Are not cancerous
  • Are not warts
  • Are not contagious
  • May sometimes be inherited from other family members (genetic)
  • Are not ‘fat deposits’
  • Are not ‘calcium deposits’
  • Are not ‘cholesterol deposits’
  • Are not due to diet
  • Are not due to makeup
  • Are of no danger to you
  • Are due to overgrowth or a portion of sweat glands in the skin
  • Are most common on the lower eyelids but may also occur on upper eyelids and the cheeks
  • Local anesthetic is injected to numb the area to be treated
  • A tiny heated instrument is used to ‘zap’ the spots
  • This causes them to become crusted and to heal flat and even with the skin surface
  • The flat areas usually blend in with your normal skin
  • More syringomas will grow over time
  • The treated areas may sometimes regrow over several months or years
  • There is no way to prevent syringomas from growing or developing
  • Treating syringomas will not cause more lesions to grow, than would have grown in the first place
