Angiokeratomas of Fordyce

Angiokeratomas:

  • Are harmless
  • Appear and small 1 mm to 4 mm deep blue, deep purple or almost black bumps on the scrotum or vulva
  • Are more common as a person ages
  • Are not warts
  • Are not cancerous or precancerous
  • Are not herpes
  • Are due to the enlargement of small veins in the skin
  • The veins become more visible when they fill with blood
  • No treatment is necessary
  • If removal is desired for cosmetic reasons, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), electrocautery, or surgery may be used
  • It is usually recommended to leave angiokeratomas alone
