Favre Racouchot Disease

Favre–Racouchot disease, Nodular cutaneous elastosis with cysts and comedones

Favre–Racouchot syndrome (Favre–Racouchot disease, Nodular cutaneous elastosis with cysts and comedones):

  • Is a form of sun damage
  • Usually develops in the skin of older adults
  • Is more common in men
  • Appears as dilated pores filled with dark coloured debris (open comedones, black heads)
  • Is usually located on the temples, upper cheeks and the outside edges of the eyes
  • May get gradually worse with time
  • Is not due to diet
  • Is not deposits of calcium in the skin
  • Is not deposits of cholesterol in the skin

General:

  • Avoid getting oily products on your skin (e.g. gel, mousse, hair spray and oil)
  • Do not use heavy moisturizers or creams on your face
  • Use only oily free (not water based) foundation
  • Do not pick, scratch, pop or squeeze the lesions, because this may cause scarring
  • Use high quality mineral makeup that will not clog your pores

Cleansing:

  • Wash your face twice daily with a mild cleanser
  • Tretinoin prescription creams are helpful
    • A tiny dab the size of a pea is enough to cover the entire face
    • If your face becomes too dry or flaky use the cream every other night or every third night
  • Microdermabrasion:
    • Another effective treatment for Favre-Racouchot syndrome, especially if a person has very sensitive skin
