General Information:

  • Is not due to hair products.
  • Is not contagious.
  • Is not due to wearing a hat.
  • Is not due to over washing or under washing the hair.
  • Is not due to diet.
  • Does not cause hair loss.
  • Is not associated with lice.
  • Is a chronic condition for which there is no cure.
  • It continues to wax and wane with time.
  • Often improves with treatment, and returns days, weeks, months or years after treatment is discontinued.
  • Is known as "cradle cap" when it affects the scalp of babies.

Treatment:

  • Antifungal and Selenium sulfide shampoos help mild seborrheic dermatitis.
  • Steroid lotions, solutions and shampoos may be used on the scalp.
  • Steroid creams, Antifungal creams, and other ointments are very effective to treat the face, ears and body.
