DRY OR SENSITIVE SKIN
Serving Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Grimsby and surrounding areas.

- People often ask my advice about dealing with dry and sensitive skin
- There are many steps that can be taken to minimize skin irritation
General Recommendations:
- Put a humidifier in the bedroom, especially in the winter
- Use lukewarm water to wash your face, hot water will dry out your skin
- Rinse your laundry twice to remove detergent residue
- Wear cotton clothes. Avoid wool as it irritates sensitive skin
- Avoid harsh 'anti-bacterial' soap
Specific Recommendations:
Patients often ask my advice about cleansers, moisturizers and sunscreens that are suitable for sensitive, dry skin. I have chosen La Roche-Posay skin care products because these products meet my high standards for effectiveness and cosmetic elegance.
Cleansing
- Avoid harsh "anti-bacterial" soaps.
- Use a gentle bar soap such as Surgras for the body.
- If you prefer a moisturizer gel, use Lipikar Surgras Ultra-moisturizing Body Wash.
- If you are sensitive to perfume, the unscented body cleansing gel which I recommend is Lipikar Gel Syndet.
- Wash your face once or twice daily a gentle cleanser such as Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser which can also be used to remove make-up. This product is perfume free and contain a minimum of chemicals and preservatives.
Moisturizing
- For dry facial skin use a good quality moisturizer such as Toleriane Facial Moisturizer which is specially formulated for the treatment of dry, sensitive skin. It is available in a regular and rich texture.
- Moisturize your skin regularly, especially when your skin is damp after a bath or shower. Use a good quality moisturizer such as Lipikar.
- If you are sensitive to perfumes, moisturize with a high quality perfume free emollient like Lipikar Balme.
- If your dry skin primarily involves the hands, use a moisturizer designed specifically for that area such as Lipikar Xerand.
- For dry lips, moisturize regularly with Nutritic Lip Balme.
Sun Protection
- To protect your skin from the sun, use a perfume free sunscreen such as Anthelios 45 Lait for the face and the Anthelios 60 Stick for the lips.
