Blood Tests

The closest laboratory is Gamma Dynacare on the first floor of the same building as Doctor V's office at 631 Queenston Road between the walk in clinic and the coffee shop.

This is a list of all the other labs that are connected with our computer system. By using one of these labs Doctor V will get your results much more quickly and be able to serve you better.

Please note that MDS labs (including the 'Blue Building' in Stoney Creek) and Hospital Laboratories (St. Joseph's Community Centre etc.) are NOT connected with Doctor V's computer system. You may still do your blood work there if you wish. Results from MDS and Hospital Laboratories can sometimes take 10 or more days to reach the doctor.

COMMON BLOOD TESTS

During Accutane Treatment
Blood work must always be done on an empty stomach (fasting for 14 hours). This must be done before you start Accutane and once per month during Accutane treatment. You should do your blood work about 1 week prior to your visit with Doctor V.

There should be 'repeats' on the blood work requisition so that you do not need a new requisition (brown form) each time, so long as you return to the same lab.

During Methotrexate Treatment
No fasting required prior to blood work.

During CellCept (Mycophenolate Mofetil) Treatment
Fasting required before each set of blood work.

During Imuran (Azathioprine) Treatment
No fasting required prior to blood work.

During Amevive (Alephacept) Treatment
Blood work (usually CD4 count) should be done on a Monday or a Tuesday only. The specimen is usually sent to a lab in Ottawa for testing. If the test is done later in the week it is often not possible to do the test before the specimen has deteriorated.
