General Information:

Fungal Nail Infections (Tinea Unguium):

  • Are caused by walking in an affected area in bare feet or exposure to contaminated foot wear.
  • Is mildly contagious.
  • Is not due to diet.
  • Typically does not permanently damage the nail.
  • Affects toe nails much more commonly than finger nails.
  • Is often associated with 'Athlete's Foot' - dryness and cracking of the skin between the toes.
  • Is not a sign of diabetes or poor circulation.
  • Does NOT require a person to use separate bathing facilities from the rest of the family.
  • Is present in 80% of the population by the age of 80.
