KERATOSIS PILARIS

Keratosis Pilaris:
- Appears as tiny, flaky, rough bumps on the sides of the arms and thighs. It may occur on the cheeks in children.
- Is a genetic problem caused by accumulation of dead skin cells around tiny hair follicles.
- Tends to improve with time on the face, but tends to persist on the body.
- Is not due to diet.
- Is not contagious.
- Is not due to poor hygiene.
- Affects 50% of the population to some degree.
- May be more noticeable in the winter.
- May sometimes develop pustules (pimples) in the areas that are affected.
- Is often seen in adults and children with a rosy complexion.
Treatment:
- This is a stubborn problem to treat.
- Use a Loofa sponge in the bath or shower to smooth the affected areas.
- There is no way to prevent Keratosis Pilaris.
- Vitalize peels are very effective to treat Keratosis Pilaris on the face, arms of legs.
- Microdermabrasion is another effective treatment for Keratosis Pilaris, especially if a person has very sensitive skin.
