MALE PATTERN BALDNESS (ANDROGENETIC ALOPECIA)
Serving Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Grimsby and surrounding areas.
Male Pattern Hair Loss:
- Usually starts in the late teens or twenties but can sometimes start earlier.
- Men with androgenetic alopecia typically lose the hair over both temples producing a receding hairline or lose hair on the top of the head.
- Women who suffer from androgenetic alopecia get thinning all over the scalp and rarely become completely bald.
- Is due to genetics.
- The susceptibility to male pattern hair loss can be inherited from either the mother or the father.
- Is NOT due to vigorously rubbing the scalp.
- Is not due to wearing a baseball cap.
- Is NOT due to over washing or under washing the scalp.
- Is NOT due to the use of the wrong shampoo, gel, perms or hair dye.
- Is NOT caused by the hair follicles becoming blocked with dirt or dandruff.
- Is NOT due to a dietary deficiency.
- Is CAUSED BY the hormone called dihydrotestosterone, which the body makes from testosterone.
- Dihydrotestosterone causes the hairs in a genetically susceptible individual to gradually become smaller until they disappear.
Treatment:
- A variety of pills and lotions are available.
- Please talk to your doctor about your treatment options.

- Is a surgical form of treatment in which hairs are moved from the back of the scalp to the front to fill in the areas of hair loss.
- The transplanted hairs will not fall out and will grow like normal hair.
- Hair transplantation is NOT available in my office.
