Hidradenitis Suppurativa
- Appears as 'boils and cysts' in the groins, underarms, under the breasts, and around the anus.
- The lesions may be very painful and can break, leaking large amounts of blood and pus.
- May be associated with large 'black heads' in the affected areas.
- Often heals with deep, purple, 'ice-pick' type scars.
- If severe may lead to the formation of sinuses, tunnel-like scars in the skin.
- Is due to blockage and infection of a type of sweat gland (apocrine glands) located in the folds of the body.
- Is similar to cystic acne and pilonidal cysts.
Treatment - General:
- Avoid tight clothing.
- Wash daily with an antiseptic cleanser
- Use an antibiotic cream on any of the large, inflamed 'cysts' when they develop.
