Rosacea for Hamilton, Grimsby and Stoney Creek

General Information - Rosacea:

  • Almost always affects the face only
  • Is associated with
    • Pimples
    • Papules (small bumps)
    • Telangiectasis (enlarged or broken capillaries)
    • A tendency to flush or blush easily
  • Sometimes may cause enlargement of the nose (rhinophyma)
  • Is commonly mistaken as a sign of alcoholism
  • Is most common in persons with fair skin and northern european heritage

General Measures:

  • Sunlight makes rosacea worse.
  • Avoid the sun and use a good sunscreen
  • Some foods such as caffeine (coffee, tea), hot drinks, alcohol and spicy foods may make rosacea worse. Consuming them in moderation or avoiding them may help

Treatment:

  • A variety of creams and pills are available.
  • Please talk to you doctor about your treatment options.
  • IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) - Fotofacials are effective for the treatment of broken capillaries (telangiectasia) and the skin redness of rosacea. As an added bonus, IPL also treats brown freckling, shrinks pores, improves sun damage and increases collagen in the skin. All of these lead to smoother, younger looking skin and reduced redness at the same time. To learn more about IPL click here
